Song of the Day

Beyonce ft. J Cole - Party

Have a great New Years!

Leopard Love

One of my favorite prints of the year was leopard.  It turned into a neutral this year and was a great base for mixing prints.  It made a statement but was easy to wear and went with almost everything.  Below are three great leopard print options.  The skirt is perfect for layering.  The bandeau top is daring but would be really fun to wear for a night out with a high waisted black skirt and a colorful belt.  Finally the shoes.  These are the shoes I have been eyeing for a long time.  They would spice up any outfit and I think come the new year I will just have to get them.

Best of 2011: Mixing Prints

My favorite trend for 2011 was mixing prints.  The look was seen on the runways, celebs, and in the real world.  Mixing prints makes a bold statement and adds so much depth and intrigue into a look. This is one trend I hope sticks around far after the new year.

Song of the Day

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

It seems appropriate to end the year on a song by a singer who I know will become a huge star in the next year.  Listen to her song Born To Die which is fantastic and not to mention the video is pretty cool as well.

In The Clutch

So many clutches so little time.  Luckily I have picked out a few fabulous envelope clutches that will add pizzaz to any outfit.  I love the look of oversized envelope clutches and how they can easily transform a little black dress from boring to interesting in seconds.  A bright color or great texture clutch can really make an outfit.  Here are my top choices. You can find them here, here, and here.

Song of The Day

Feist - How Come You Never Go There

This song is captivating, airy, and beautiful and I have been playing it on repeat all day.

Sparkle and Shine

Today I was figuring out my New Years Eve plans, which I know is very last minute, and it got me worried about what I was going to wear when the clock strikes twelve.  I am a fan of anything sequined or sparkly for New Years and that is why the sequined jacket is great.  It has tons of sparkle and glam and for a fairly reasonable price. What I was more excited for was the amazing shorts I found while looking for New Years inspiration.  Now these shorts, I admit, are a little strange but they are fantastic.  The color, the fabric, and the fringe all work to make these great party pants.  Wearing these for New Years would be a bold way to enter 2012 but why not make a bold statement to start the year off right! You can find the jacket here and the shorts here.

Nailed It

I just thought I would quickly share with you my latest nail color obsession, You Don't Know Jacques! by OPI.  I love how unique the color is.  As you can see from the picture it is a brownish taupe color that is perfect for winter. When I had it painted on my nails the other day my friend noticed the color right when she saw me and she told me she loved it too.  Now that you know two people give it the seal of approval you must try it.  It does go on kind of sheer so put on two coats to make sure it is opaque.

Prim and Proper

I love the look of blouses, but I have been on the hunt for a sheer blouse with a tie neck.  The look is ladylike but with the right pattern or color it can be ladylike with a twist.  Below are my favorite options for this look.  You can find these tops here and here.

Fluorescent Fashion

Adding pops of fluorescent into your wardrobe can be a great way to add unexpected color and brightness to the usually dark colors that accompany winter wardrobes.  By using bright accessories or accents you can take a drab boring outfit and make it pop.  I love how bright the JCrew Purse is and it comes in a variety of colors.  The fluorescent accents on the dress take the plain grey dress and make it unique.  Finally the simple pop of fuchsia on the necklace is stunning.

Accordion To Me

My sister has been on the hunt for an accordion, or pleated skirt, forever.  Finally she got a BCBG one for Christmas.  While I was wrapping it I started to really fall in love with the look.  Although it can look dated if you put a little effort into styling the skirt with modern accessories this vintage looking skirt can work wonderfully in the 21st century.  Belting the skirt is one way to make it unique.  I would add a gold or leopard belt over a black accordion skirt as well as tights and ankle boots, if you are wearing the look for winer. For summer, which I know feels a long way off, a lighter color skirt like the one pictured would really make you stand out.

Olive It

For Christmas I got an olive green Michael Kors purse and I am in love with the color.  It is such a great departure from the traditional brown or black purse.  The color goes with everything.  Below are two purses to get you into the olive mood.  The Michael Kors Purse is roomy and perfect for everyday.  The Coach Purse is patent leather, which I absolutely love, and would be great for nights out.

Fair Isle Lovin'

In honor of Christmas I thought I would write about one of my favorite winter prints.  Most people turn to plaid when the weather cools, but a more unique pattern to incorporate into your wardrobe is fair isle.  The print screams winter and is adorable on sweaters and leggings.  It is also a print that looks good paired with other prints or left to shine on its own. The sweater below from JCrew is great because the fair isle print is only along the bottom hem.  It would look great paired with a printed dress, tights and ankle boots. The leggings make a much bolder statement.  They scream winter but would be fantastic paired with a long sheer baggy sweater and bold cream heeled ankle boots.  Let it snow!

Roll With It

I have been loving the look of rolled up jeans and ankle boots. Not only does it look great but it is an excellent way to show off your shoes.  To get the right look you have to make sure that you only roll the jeans up to right above where the ankle boot stops.  There should be about an inch of skin showing between the shoe and the jean.  Also make sure that you make the roll small so it looks like you intentionally rolled the jeans and are not just wearing capris.  Below I showed two types of boots that could go with rolled jeans.  The first pair of boots I own and love.  They are super comfortable and look great with faded grey jeans.  The second pair would be great to wear out but also could be worn during the day with a fun patterned top.  I love wearing the look with blouses and chunky gold jewelry but there are a lot of ways to wear this look.

Winter Shorts

Shorts are always associated with summer, but they are actually the perfect piece to make you stand out from the crowd in winter.  Winter shorts need to be a heavier material and in a darker color.  I always pair my winter shorts with tights, either knee-high socks and boots, or simply ankle boots with a bit of a heel.  Top them off with a fur vest and a soft tee or long sleeve top and you have a perfect outfit for day.  If you want to dress winter shorts up for night just add higher heels, and don't be afraid to wear brightly colored heels, and a long sleeve blouse or silk top and you are set.  A statement necklace of big gold watch will compete the look.  Find the shorts above on sale here.

Below are is a great pair of winter white shorts.  They are perfect for a night out and are a dressier version than the winter shorts for day.  The slight shimmer adds some glam that would work well with a faux fur jacket and a chunky heel.  But the best part about these shorts is that they are on sale.  You can find them here.
